The Main Differences In Cricut Cartridges

Once you've made the decision to purchase a Cricut machine and Cricut cartridges is the right move for you, the next decision is what Cricut cartridges to start with.

Each Cricut cartridge holds and stores die cut information. By inserting a cartridge into the Cricut machine, you can choose from any of the die cuts saved on that cartridge to print out.

When selecting a cartridge, you should consider what types of projects you will be completing. That will help you narrow down your choices as you browse the thousands of available Cricut cartridges. There are dozens of Cricut cartridges available for purchase, and they boast a wide range of themes, fonts and styles.

There are Cricut font cartridges. These vary from the Opposites Attract that features font styles that are long, delicate and bold letters and All Mixed Up to favorite characters including Hannah Montana, Hello Kitty, Sesame Street, Pooh and Mickey Mouse. The Mickey font cartridge includes uppercase and lowercase alphabets, punctuation and symbols and several images and font features including tags, charms, silhouettes, shadows and more.

Next are the shapes cartridges, and there are cartridges for whatever occasion or design you want to create. There's the sports mania, paper doll dress up and ZooBalloo. There also are favorite children's characters to choose from including Disney Cars, Tinkerbell and Friends and Dreams Come True and Happily Ever After Disney shape cartridges that feature Disney princesses.

Cricut also offers a series of cartridges called Classmates. Designed for classroom use, these cartridges for the Cricut Machine and Cricut Expression Machine feature classroom fonts, shapes, words, sayings and ideas to give teachers a helping hand in designing their classrooms. Options include the Word Builders, My Community, My World. Cursive 101 and 50 States.

These not only help students learn basic concepts like building words and recognizing seasons, but they also add creativity to the classroom decor. Using the Cricut Expression Machine can create banner size cuts and drawings up to 24 inches long.

Provo Craft, the creator of the Cricut, also has started distributing another type of cartridge called Cricut Solutions. They are cheaper than the original or classic cartridges, costing about $49. They feature a new style and packaging and offer 50 designs and two creative features that are mostly shadow and blackout/shadow blackout. There are shape cartridges including baseball, soccer, welding and campout and font cartridges including stone script, street sign and Sans serif.

The great thing about Cricut is Provo Craft continues to develop new cartridges all the time, so you never get to the bottom of the list! Shopping for new cartridges is always a fun way to think of new, creative projects you can make!
