Can I run a 115v electric motor on a 110v home outlet?
I picked up a little electric motor at a store that sells an assortment of items you can't find anywhere else. I'd been thinking of doing a project that would require an electric motor and this one seemed to fit the bill. On the side of the motor it shows 115v and 1.5A. Is there anyway to set this up so that it can run on a typical home electrical outlet? It has a positive and a negative on the case and a green and yellow wire with an eyelet that I assume is a ground wire. I rigged it up with an old wire I spliced and plugged it in and it moved a fraction of an inch and that was it. It doesn't appear nor smell as though it's burnt up and when tested with a circuit tester shows it's got a complete circuit.
Yes, you can. You'll find that if you plug a volt meter into a wall socket that is producing between 110V and 128V. The motor you plan to use is only drawing 1.5 amps which isn't much more than a computer or lamp. I hope that helps.

Wedding Lanterns And Paper Star Lanterns
Weddings and special events present a special case when it comes to decorating. Often the budget is relatively tight, the space needs perking up, and the event coordinator is looking for a way to make this event different from the last one.
Enter the simple paper lantern. Wedding lanterns have been around probably since there have been weddings, but never has there been a time when the selection was greater, prices lower and installation easier than now.
Whatever the theme of your wedding or party, there is an affordable wedding lantern for your special event need. Round paper lanterns are an easy and inexpensive way to add some pizzazz to your party. These cool lights come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors. Usually made from paper or from nylon, Chinese or Japanese lanterns are now available in an amazing array of colors like sage, periwinkle, and brick.
You can find them in cubes, "cocoon" shapes, egg shapes, balloon shapes and more. Sizes range anywhere from about 4" at the smallest to 36" or even more. What's more, the materials used are not just your simple, run of the mill rice paper any longer. Now these lanterns are made more durable using nylon fabric that will withstand moisture and being unpacked and repacked.
Finishes include handmade papers, papers with smalle "eyelet" holes that let the light shine through more effectively, and of course, the original rice paper we commonly associate with these types of lanterns. Ribbing can be made of bamboo or wire, and can be regularly spaced or for a more free-form look, irregularly spaces.
If you want something that really outshines the competition from the last wedding you went to, try using paper star lanterns. Another problem often encountered at weddings or special events is the lack of available electrical outlets. Often they are spaced too far apart, not in the right place for your needs, or just not available at all.
The solution to your lack of power? LED lights powered by tiny watch batteries. These LEDs are not necessarily as bright as a traditional lantern cord, but they will add some illumination to make your paper star lantern or wedding lantern shine where none has shone before: outdoors, in trees, in barn lofts or wherever the use of a lantern is desired.
There are many terrific online resources for these specialized lights. Most lanterns ship flat, then pop open with minimal effort. At the end of the event, they can be disassembled and put in storage until the next time they are needed.
The LED lights are small and typically stay lit for anywhere from 5 to 12 hours, depending on the battery used and number of LEDs it powers. Best of all, the battery usually be replaced for the next time you need lights where there is no convenient electric supply.
